In with the new...

Brazen Hussy is now being sold at COVET + CRAVE 803 Queen St. West. 416.860.9898

It's actually the same location as COAL (where we have been for the past year) but the name is different.

We have awesome stuff for the holiday season. I know there's probably tons of fun parties going on and you can't go out recycling outfits all the time so make your wardrobe a little more "brazen". People will thank you... (wink)

Come in and see our new home.

One of those songs that makes you feel like crying...

I love this song.

'RIver' by: Joni Mitchell.

It's coming near Christmas, they're cuttin down trees
They're puttin up reindeer and singing songs of joy and peace.

I wish I had a river
I could skate away on

It don't snow here, it stays pretty green
I'm gonna make a lot of money
And I'm gonna quit this crazy scene.

I wish I had a river
I could skate away on

I wish I had a river so long
I could teach my feet to fly

Oh, I wish I had a river, I could skate away on
I made my baby cry.

He tried hard to help me, he put me at ease
He loved me so naughty
Made me weak in the knees.

I wish I had a river
I could skate away on

I'm so hard to handle, I'm selfish, and I'm sad
I went and lost the best baby I ever had.

I wish I had a river
I could skate away on

I wish I had a river so long
I could teach my feet to fly

Oh, I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
I made my baby say goodbye.

It's coming near Christmas, they're cuttin down trees
They're puttin up reindeer and singing song of joy and peace.

I wish I had a river
I could skate away on

4 months later....and a photoshoot for Toro magazine

Hellooooo...

So I've been anti-blog since May and tons of shit has been going on with Brazen Hussy and we've been SUPER busy.

But I'm done neglecting the blog.

I got an email from the lovely ladies at The Style Box (The Stylebox is a showroom at the Toronto Fashion Incubator where Brazen Hussy is a resident brand) saying congrats for being one of the designers pulled for the TORO magazine shoot.

Take a look...

"Charlotte Sullivan appears as Fay Poppington in the movie Defendor, a “superhero comedy” that stars Woody Harrelson as a delusional man living in Hamilton, Ontario, who believes he has superhuman powers. The project was written and directed by Peter Stebbings (Sullivan's BF) and had its world premiere at TIFF '09.

She is currently filming Copper, a 13-part TV series for ABC. And she’s also wrapped Alice, a four-part miniseries that she describes as a re-imagination of Alice in Wonderland set in the 1960s. It features, among others, Kathy Bates, Tim Curry and Harry Dean Stanton."

How wicked is this chick? Janelle Monae...

She met Outkast's Big Boi at a local music event in Atlanta. He was impressed with her talent and put her on his 'Got purp?' album. Soon after, Big Boi introduces her to Diddy and before you know it she has a record deal with Bad Boy.

Originality in music is hard to come by these days. I think that Janelle Monae's style and sound will spark novelty in the state of music.

Watch the video and see for yourself....

The PLAYMATE of THE YEAR drops by...

Jayde Nicole...the men out there know her best as "The playmate of the year" and the ladies know her best as Brody Jenner's girlfriend on "the hills".

She isn't portrayed as the nicest girl on the hills but she's actually a really sweet person and a Canadian girl. (woohoo)

A few months ago, my stylist friends pulled some pieces from our line to use in a photoshoot for a calendar and the next day Jayde's manager was calling me asking if Brazen could design some pieces for her to wear to red carpet events. she came by the store (COAL) and she was like a fat kid in a candy store...except she's actually tiny.

We designed a dress for her to wear to Heidi and Spencer's wedding. (I know...barf) and whenever she comes into town, she drops by the store and gets more stuff.

That's a photo of her and I on mother's day. She came in with her little sisters and her mom. They were cute.

Here are some paparazzi photo's of her with Brody.

topic: sampling/remixes

I'm pretty picky about remixes. I don't like when people take a song that someone else previously wrote/sang and redo it and make it worse.

I think Toto's version of "Africa" is great. Why did Karl Wolf take it and sing it and take credit for it? He didn't even really change it. Thie original was way awesomer. I feel bad for saying this because he's Canadian but it's true.

Flo-rida did the same thing with "Right Round". He sampled Dead or Alive's song and made it worse. When this song comes on the radio in my car, I frantically fumble to change the station. The girl's voice is super annoying.

Anyway...I guess I'm gonna have to get used to all my fave 80's songs getting reused and killed. So sad.

I don't feel this way about ALL remixes. The Kid Cudi, Kanye & Common remix of Pokerface ("poke her face")is actually amazing. I love it!

Poo-art? umm...wtf...

I went over to my friend Mandi's place last night to have some dinner and before we eat, she says "I have a present for you".

So I open up this bag and it's a book. (The one pictured above)

Some sick and twisted people go around the streets of new york, find dog poop, create exhibits out of it, dress it up, arrange figures around it, have photoshoots then make up funny names for these displays.

For example, they found a piece of dog crap, inserted needles all around it and called it "Hellraiser". There's a whole book full of decorated poo photos.

It's really nasty and I'm not sure why my friend chose to give it to me right before dinner. It's pretty sick. But c'mon...it takes imagination to turn poo into art.

"Good Girl Gone Brazen" footage from the show

Thanks to Jeff Mar for covering the show and posting this on youtube.

Do you think you could rock this?

I absolutely LOVE Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld is a fashion genius. I'm not sure if anyone can seriously walk around with this. Well...not a regular person anyway. I don't even know if it's for sale but if it is, I'm sure it costs more than I can afford.

Good Girl Gone BRAZEN fashion show in T- 3 days!!!

I'm getting nerrrrvous.

Only 3 days until SHOW TIME! My sister Kiki and I are super busy doing some last minute "tings" to make the show amazing for you...

We will be showing our fall/winter 2009 collection with the show appropriately themed: GOOD GIRL GONE BRAZEN.

Why good girl gone brazen? Well... it goes with the story of how brazen came to be.

The story of 3 girls who were best friends. Cute and innocent. They loved fashion and did everything together. They went through some rough patches in life...dated a few bad apples but when they came face-to-face with life-altering adversity they turned it into something positive. They created a company and put all their energy into it. Girls all over the world loved what they were doing and how the clothes made them feel.

The fall/winter collection reflects our story. Some pieces are fun and pretty and others are so sexy, you'll want to wear it around your ex boyfriend and his new girlfriend.

We've also got some amazingly talented musicians preforming including violinist Grenville Pinto and R&B recording artist Andreena Mill (www.andreenamill.com or www.myspace.com/andreenamill) as well as brazen's fave DJ Lissa Monet (http://lissamonet.com/blog/).

The Fashion show will take place on Thursday March 12th at CiRCA nightclub in the smirnoff ballroom 126 john st. (at Richmond). 11pm. Guestlist is free before the show starts at 11pm.

Do NOT miss this one. Its going to be an amazing show and after party! While we've been busy planning the fashion show portion of the night, our besties at cocoandlowe (http://cocoandlowe.com/blog/) are taking care of the party portion. As the professional party planners and ultimate socialites, they are, the fun will continue on 'til the break of dawn.

For guestlist, email guestlist@cocoandlowe.com or for booth reservations, email bookbooth@cocoandlowe.com

Don't forget to check out our spring/summer collection out now exclusively at COAL clothing 803 queen st. West.

Word of the day is....REBOOTY

Don't laugh at me BUT from time to time, you might catch me on my computer checking out the Online Urban dictionary because people make up some funny words.

So anyway, I went on today and the word of the day was REBOOTY.

If any of you watched the Bachelor last night, you'll agree that this word describes Jason and Molly's situation.

The definition according to the online urban dictionary:

1. A booty call made with an ex.

2. A renewed relationship with an ex.

"After things didn't work out with Melissa, Jason went on TV and asked for a REBOOTY with Molly."

I don't agree with Rebooties unless you are drunk and it's only one time.

p.s. Molly is stupid for taking him back. He just spent the past 6 weeks banging Melissa.

I heart COOL KIDS

This song is GOOOOOOOD!

COOL KIDS - Black Mags - COOL KIDS

I love John Legend even more after this...

This was John Legends letter to the editor of the NEW YORK POST after that cartoon appeared in the paper.

Dear Editor:

I'm trying to understand what possible motivation you may have had for publishing that vile cartoon depicting the shooting of the chimpanzee that went crazy. I guess you thought it would be funny to suggest that whomever was responsible for writing the Economic Recovery legislation must have the intelligence and judgment of a deranged, violent chimpanzee, and should be shot to protect the larger community.

Really? Did it occur to you that this suggestion would imply a connection between President Barack Obama and the deranged chimpanzee? Did it occur to you that our President has been receiving death threats since early in his candidacy? Did it occur to you that blacks have historically been compared to various apes as a way of racist insult and mockery? Did you intend to invoke these painful themes when you printed the cartoon?

If that's not what you intended, then it was stupid and willfully ignorant of you not to connect these easily connectable dots. If it is what you intended, then you obviously wanted to be grossly provocative, racist and offensive to the sensibilities of most reasonable Americans. Either way, you should not have printed this cartoon, and the fact that you did is truly reprehensible. I can't imagine what possible justification you have for this. I've read your lame statement in response to the outrage you provoked. Shame on you for dodging the real issue and then using the letter as an opportunity to attack Rev. Sharpton. This is not about Rev. Sharpton. It's about the cartoon being blatantly racist and offensive.

I believe in freedom of speech, and you have every right to print what you want. But freedom of speech still comes with responsibilities and consequences. You are responsible for printing this cartoon, and I hope you experience some real consequences for it. I'm personally boycotting your paper and won't do any interviews with any of your reporters, and I encourage all of my colleagues in the entertainment business to do so as well. I implore your advertisers to seriously reconsider their business relationships with you as well.

You should print an apology in your paper acknowledging that this cartoon was ignorant, offensive and racist and should not have been printed.

I'm well aware of our country's history of racism and violence, but I truly believe we are better than this filth. As we attempt to rise above our difficult past and look toward a better future, we don't need the New York Post to resurrect the images of Jim Crow to deride the new administration and put black folks in our place. Please feel free to criticize and honestly evaluate our new President, but do so without the incendiary images and rhetoric.

Sincerely,
John Legend

Reform the way you live your life....be HAPPIER :)

I read this book years ago and it taught me a lot about my self and others. The book is called 'The Four Agreements' and the author is Don Ruiz.

The book suggests that there are 4 life rules to being a happier person. These rules are based on the wisdom of the ancient Toltec of Mexico. It says that there are 4 practices that each person must commit to to reach true happiness and love.

1. "BE IMPECCABLE WITH YOUR WORD" - Speak with integrity. There is 'power' in words and you should use that power to say exactly what you mean and use it in a direction of positivity and truth. You shouldn't misuse 'the word' for negativity such as gossip or tell lies.

In other words, telling lies and spreading gossip will just make you look like the fool. Your lies always catch up to you. Nobody likes a liar and people with no friends can't be happy.

2. "DON'T TAKE ANYTHING PERSONALLY" - Don't let the opinions and actions of others affect you because these opinions/actions actually have nothing to do with you. They are the result of fear and/or insecurity with themselves. According to Ruiz, we will avoid needless suffering if we stop taking things personally.

In other words, Let the haters hate because they are actually your BIGGEST fans.

3. "DON'T MAKE ASSUMPTIONS" - and you will avoid misunderstandings. When you make assumptions, you just create unnecessary sadness and worry. Instead, you should communicate with clarity.

In other words, if you assume something and you are actually wrong, you'll feel like a bag of shit. But if you are clear with your intentions or expectations or ask the person you are communicating with, to clarify, you won't be forced to ASSUME and won't expect shit and disappoint yourself.

4. "ALWAYS DO YOUR BEST" - avoid regret and self-judgment. If you always do your best under any circumstances, you will avoid the consequences of what happens when you don't do your best.

In other words, if you study every day for a year then write your LSATs then get into law school and end up making loads of money and buying gucci purses on the regular, you'll be glad because the hard work paid off. But if you slack off and procrastinate and cram the night before the test and fail, you'll be pissed that you didn't try harder especially because you know what your capable of at your full potential.

No go make these 4 agreements with yourself and be a better person... word up!
